We’re constantly hit with messages of how to spend our time and money. Advertising would like more consumers. People in our lives would like to suggest who we become.
With all this messaging, how can we sift through and find what we want? Clarity comes from spending time with ourselves. We can hear our internal monologue most clearly when we are alone. Spending time with ourselves will help us realize what we like to do, what we think about who we are and what we think about who we are becoming. This alone time is critical for ensuring that we are making time for what we want for ourselves.
How can we listen to ourselves? Meditate, pray, or sit in silence. Try to clear your mind by counting the breaths up to ten, and then over again. If there is something that needs attention in your life, such as which career to pursue, then make that the focus of the session by writing down the question, or by asking it to yourself while meditating.
When we finally decide to listen to ourselves, we will direct how we spend our time and money, and therefore live our best life. We own our happiness and success, all we have to do is own it.
